TIME CAPSULE / SAMURAI FM:

Time Capsule is a monthly selection of records played 30 years ago by DJ Greg Wilson - the first in the series covering January 1976. The programme is produced for Samurai FM.

The idea was born of ‘First Impressions’, which Greg put together for Six Million Steps to mark the 30th Anniversary of his club debut on December 6th 1975.

As the months go by, Time Capsule will build into a veritable dance music archive, which will help illustrate how the Disco era unfolded from a UK perspective. Each Time Capsule comes complete with tracklisting and accompanying text.

DAVID MANCUSO AND THE ART OF DEEJAYING WITHOUT DEEJAYING

This has recently been included on The Loft’s own website. I’d like to thank David Mancuso and also Tim Lawrence, the author of “Love Saves The Day”, for reading through it, in order for me to be double-sure that the factual detail was all correct. It was obviously important to me that the piece, which looks at the direct link between disco culture and the psychedelic 60s, received David’s full blessing.

TWO TALES FROM THE RAVE

From New York’s Perfect Sound Forever, two short pieces that explore decline and renewal within the dance scene. “All Good Things Come To An End” remembers Manchester’s famous Haçienda club, through bad times and good, whilst “A Mixed Up Time” looks at how DJs are having to adjust to a new club climate.

First published in issue #3 of GrandSlam, this is an overview of the hybrid late 70’s / early 80’s New York No Wave movement, what led up to it, what resulted from it, and how its influence is still felt today.
